The Southern Maryland Reliability Project was first announced to the public in Spring 2008, and the project received approval from the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) in September 2009.
Construction on the Reliability Project will begin in Spring 2012, will occur in phases, and is planned to be completed by 2016:
- Creating temporary access roads
- Setting new foundations
- Installing new poles
- Hanging new wire
- Crossing the Patuxent River
The full Reliability Project construction timeline below outlines how the project will proceed:
The Reliability Project will ensure reliable power for our customer-members with a minimal impact on current rates and the environment. Pole locations were carefully considered and discussed with homeowners along the route.
We’re proud of our environmental track record and have worked to balance the need for reliable power with environmental protection. Impacts will be minimized with protective measures and fully restored after construction is completed.
