SMECO Board members earn NRECA certification
Congratulations to Directors Charles Bowling Jr., David Cross Jr., and Edward Holland who recently earned their National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) certificates. This achievement reflects their dedication to serving our community and helping guide SMECO into a bright future.
One small change helps save money and reduce waste
Your cooperative is constantly seeking ways to save money and improve efficiency. One change we instituted this year is to switch from using single-use Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) jugs to using bulk cube dispensers at our fueling stations. This shift will save approximately $10,000 and eliminate approximately 1,500 pounds of disposable plastic waste per year.

Eligible cooperative members* interested in running in 2025 to serve on SMECO’s Board of Directors must submit their applications in May.
Standard Offer Service rate tracker
Total residential Standard Offer Service (SOS) rate for March: $0.101172 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
- Winter Residential Energy Charge: $0.0854 per kWh
- March Residential Power Cost Adjustment (PCA): $0.015772 per kWh
SMECO’s PCA for March was 18.32 percent greater than the current residential base SOS rate.
