Youth Tour visits Washington, D.C.
In June, four high school students from SMECO’s service area traveled to the nation’s capital for a week of education, entertainment, and engagement with other teens from across the U.S. for the 2025 Youth Tour.
SMECO and VMDAEC 2025 scholarship winners
In 2025, SMECO awarded four $2500 scholarships to high school seniors who live in the cooperative’s service area. Recipients receive awards based on scholastic achievement, financial need, and school and community involvement.

Standard Offer Service rate update
Total residential Standard Offer Service (SOS) rate for July: $0.108758 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
- Summer Residential Energy Charge: $0.1057 per kWh
- July Residential Power Cost Adjustment (PCA): $0.003058 per kWh
SMECO’s PCA for July was 2.89% greater than the current residential base SOS rate.
Correction: The June edition of the Cooperative Review incorrectly listed Board members under the wrong county. Prince George’s County members were switched with the St. Mary’s members.
