Standard Offer Service rate update
Total residential Standard Offer Service (SOS) rate for July: $0.108758 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
- Summer Residential Energy Charge: $0.1057 per kWh
- July Residential Power Cost Adjustment (PCA): $0.003058 per kWh
SMECO’s PCA for July was 2.89% greater than the current residential base SOS rate.
SMECO must revise its base energy rate if the PCA for three consecutive months is 5 percent more or less than the base energy rate. The PCA exceeded the 5% threshold in January, February, and March, triggering the cooperative to file a request to increase the base energy rate on March 31, 2025. The revised energy charge was approved and went into effect on June 1, 2025. Since SMECO’s PCA for July did not meet the 5 percent trigger, SMECO’s base energy rate will remain unchanged at
this time.
Correction: The July edition of the Cooperative Review incorrectly listed the PCA as a credit.
