SMECO raises $55,000 for Center for Children
SMECO employees held a fund-raising event and donated $55,000 to the Center for Children. “Children are a vulnerable population and helping families establish safe and healthy homes is crucial to the well-being of the community and society as a whole. We selected the Center for Children as this year’s fundraising recipient because it provides a wide range of resources to support and nurture the protection of children locally,” said Natalie Cotton, SMECO’s government affairs and community relations director.
Nominate an outstanding teacher
Each year, SMECO works with the school systems of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties to present Outstanding Teacher awards to educators for their leadership in the fields of mathematics, science, technology, and engineering.
Scholarships available for eligible graduates
SMECO is offering four $2,500 scholarships to local high school students who excel in their endeavors and show promise in their chosen field of study.

Standard Service Offer (SOS) rate change expected
When the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) is more than five percent of the base energy rate for three consecutive months, SMECO is required to adjust the base energy rate. The PCA met that threshold for July, August, and September. We filed for a rate adjustment at the end of October; new rates are anticipated to go into effect on January 1, 2023.
