ABOUT THE COOPERATIVE

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) is an electric distribution cooperative that provides electric service to more than 149,000 members with more than 178,000 meters. Founded in 1937, the cooperative provides service to members in Charles County, St. Mary’s County, southern Prince George’s County, and most of Calvert County.

SMECO is led by a management team with extensive industry experience and is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors.

As a cooperative, our mission is to put members first by delivering safe, reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity, and related services that exceed members’ expectations.
