An initiative to recruit, hire, and honor veterans

In an ongoing effort to facilitate the connection between job-seeking veterans and electric cooperative career opportunities, SMECO works to recruit, hire, and honor our veterans. Veterans can enter the workforce with identifiable and transferable skills to help achieve our co-op’s mission. Their military experiences add value for our cooperative because they:

    • have extensive technical, leadership, and safety skills.

    • have the proven ability to learn new concepts

    • have crisis and risk management training

    • work efficiently, effectively, and diligently in high-pressure and fast-paced environments. 

These key traits will help advance our growth and innovation in the energy industry.

Currently, SMECO employs 37 veterans—nearly eight percent of our workforce—from the Airforce, Army, Marines, Navy, and Special Ops. We’ve seen first-hand how hiring these men and women can strengthen SMECO and our community, and we honor our commitment to them.
