Step into the Story – Three Little Pigs

For children age 3 to 5. Participants will engage with 17th-century colonial Maryland through an interactive retelling of a familiar fairy tale. Utilizing imaginative play, movement, and vocalizations, these stories will introduce aspects of colonial life that students may compare with modern life and will reinforce age-appropriate skills and behaviors including telling the truth, following rules, sharing, treating others with kindness, and more. Participants will interact with concepts related to early Maryland immigration, planting, foodways, animal husbandry, economy and environment, etc. while using imaginative play to develop gross motor skills, active listening skills, and teamwork. Specific activities include, but are not limited to, performing courtesies, jumping, walking, dancing, hoeing mounds, and rolling a hogshead while using imaginative play to perform the story of the “Three Little Pigs.” The Tobacco Plantation has no paved paths, so expect uneven terrain. This is also an outdoor program; this workshop may be cancelled in the event of heavy rains or inclement weather. Hands-on activities may include handling soil and other various types of materials and textures. Registration required.
