ACCOUNTING AND BUDGETING MANAGER

Job Description:

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for an Accounting & Budgeting Manager.  The primary functions of this position will be supervising the accounting and budgeting team ensuring training and processes are in place to handle transactions accurately and timely; responsible for the preparation of the operating and capital budgets for submission to the Senior Vice President & CFO and the President & CEO; preparing the annual budget presentation for the Board of Directors; actively monitoring systems and processes and regularly evaluating for improved efficiency.

In addition, this position will supervise and coordinate the preparation of various annual and monthly reports for external and internal use; be the primary source for orchestration and creation of new reports relating to accounting and budgeting for use by the organization using various applications; evaluating current reports and report processes to promote more effective use and application.

Lastly, this position will maintain knowledge of systems to support accounting and budgeting functions, and maintain a thorough understanding of the transactions interfacing with the accounting system ensuring data integrity across systems.

Starting salary ranges is $75,000-$97,200 annually.  SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including a 401k 6% dollar for dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.

Required Skills:

We are seeking candidates with a four-year college degree with emphasis in accounting or business. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desired.

Required Experience:

Minimum of eight years’ progressive accounting experience with an electric utility or other commercial operation in related areas including demonstrated proficiency in personal computer skills and an understanding of automated accounting systems and applications.  Management and administration experience is required.  Strong analytical, communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.  Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).

ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS COORDINATOR

Job Description:

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has two immediate openings for an Environmental Affairs Coordinator.  The primary functions of this position will be providing supervision and coordination of the department’s environmental functions to ensure that SMECO is in compliance with federal, EPA, state and county regulations; responds to hazardous material spills and supervises decontamination efforts, directs the fuel tank inventory, inspection and testing program.

In addition, this position will perform wetland delineation for SMECO projects, produce Forest Stand Delineation and Forest Conservation plans for SMECO projects, develop and support sediment and erosion control plans for transmission projects.

Lastly, this position will monitor and respond as necessary to avian problems, assist and advise the Permits & Contracts Manager in all areas of environmental concern.

Starting salary ranges is $75,000-$97,200 annually.  SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including a 401k 6% dollar for dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.

Required Experience:

Minimum of six years’ progressive experience in the environmental field related to wetland delineation, forest stand delineation, environmental management and assessment and environmental reporting.  Experience dealing with the public, contractors, and federal, state and local public officials.  Must have completed MDE/ACOE training in wetland delineation.  Must be considered a “Qualified Professional” by the State of Maryland and be able to demonstrate forest stand delineation skills.  Must have a Class A/B UST Operator Certification and have a strong knowledge of underground fuel tank system.

Job Description:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learns to answer all incoming calls/inquiries and customer requests by offering prompt, confidential assistance.
  • Responds to complaints and requests for information and assistance by understanding and utilizing all related system applications, business tools and business process. Uses information obtained through contact with customers to advise supervisor of trends in customer concerns, suggestions, and possible new services or products.
  • Learns to monitor and complete follow up with customers to ensure customer service requests and/or issues are resolved.
  • Learns how to prepare correspondence to handle customer inquiries and prepare and submit statistical data.
  • Informs customers of various SMECO payment plans or outside assistance programs as they may apply to the customer’s needs; enrolls customers in appropriate SMECO plans.

POWER SYSTEMS COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

Job Description:

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for a Power System Communications Director.  The primary functions of this position will be responsible for directing the Communications Department resources in the major functions of design, installation, testing, and maintenance of the fiber optic SONET based communication system including: (1) licensed 900MHz multiple address system (MAS) for substation communications, (2) licensed VHF mobile radio system, and (3) Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) TGB base station communication backhaul.

In addition, this position will direct the communication requirements to support the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of the following areas (1) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, (2) 230kV and 69kV protective relaying communications, and (3) 13kV distribution automation schemes.

Lastly, this position will provide the necessary 24-hour technical support for all power system communications to maintain system reliability and NERC Compliance. Implements the architecture for and operates IP-Based communication systems and IAN/WAN networks.

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has an immediate opening for a Project Management Office Director in our Strategy & Innovation Services division.  The primary functions of this position are being responsible for leadership and management of the PMO processes and functions, including coordination of the project portfolio and governance practices.  Utilizing various methods and best practices for the project management of strategic initiatives across the Cooperative, tracking and reporting the conformance to plans and expectations of all strategic initiatives.  The PMO Director is also responsible for supporting and enabling the organization’s projects, programs and structured work efforts as well as, ensuring that the work of the PMO adds value, is relevant to and aligns the strategy of the organization, and meets the goals set for the Cooperative set by the executive team.

The primary functions of this position will be responsible for directing the System Protection and Control Department resources in the major functions of design, installations, testing and maintenance of the following areas: (1) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, and (2) 230kV transmission, 69kB sub-transmission, substation and 13kV distribution protective relaying systems.
