For more than 25 years, people in the Charles County community of Indian Head had to travel 10 miles to find fresh food. To make an everyday difference for their neighbors, Marilyn Steele and her team decided to turn an old 11,000-square-foot facility into a mixed-use property, including a grocery store.
After learning that SMECO offered incentives on energy-efficient equipment, Steele’s team quickly enlisted the cooperative’s help to install the building’s lighting and HVAC systems.
Since partnering with SMECO, the Oasis Fresh Foods Market has seen:
