Appliance Recycling

• Large refrigerators and freezers are eligible for a $50 reward per unit. Receive an additional $25 per unit when you recycle mini refrigerators, room air conditioners, and dehumidifiers.
• Receive your rebate incentive check in the mail within 4-6 weeks, following your pickup.
• You must be a residential SMECO customer-member with a valid account number. Your appliances will be picked up, at no charge, from the service address listed on your residential account.
• Your appliance(s) must be in working condition and will be tested at our recycling facility. If the unit is found to not be in working condition, the appliance will not be eligible for an incentive.
• Limit of 2 large appliances (refrigerators, freezers) and 2 small appliances (room air conditioners, dehumidifiers, mini refrigerators) per SMECO residential account per year.
• You must own the large refrigerator, freezer, dehumidifier, room air conditioner, and/or mini refrigerator.
• You must schedule your large refrigerator or freezer pick-up for us to pick up your air conditioner, dehumidifier, or mini refrigerator at the same time.

• The large refrigerator and/or freezer must be 10 to 30 cubic feet. Large refrigerators and freezers are eligible for $50 per unit.
• Mini refrigerators must be 3 – 9 cubic feet. Mini refrigerators are eligible for $25 per unit.
• The large/mini refrigerator, freezer and/or dehumidifier must be cleaned out.
• The large/mini refrigerator or freezer must be defrosted and dry, drip pan drained, and water lines disconnected. Our contractors cannot disconnect the water line. If it is not disconnected at the time of your pick-up appointment, they will not be able to remove your unit from the home. Your pick-up appointment will be rescheduled, if applicable.

Limit of 2 large appliances (refrigerators, freezers) and 2 small appliances (room air conditioners, dehumidifiers, mini refrigerators) per SMECO residential account per year.

• Elevator access is required for any large refrigerators or freezers located above the second floor.
• An adult age 18 or older must be present at the time of pickup.
• There must be a clear and safe passage for appliance removal. We cannot remove railings or move furniture.

• If the unit is located outside, ensure that the large/mini refrigerator or freezer is closed securely and cannot be opened by children.
• If the unit is outside for pickup and no one is home, there must be an authorization form completed and placed inside the unit. The unit will not be collected if there is no authorization form. SMECO is not responsible for any stolen property left outside for the program.

No. In order to schedule a pickup to recycle old, working small appliances (mini fridges, dehumidifiers, room A/Cs), a large refrigerator/freezer must be scheduled for pickup at the same time.

Yes, our multifamily program provides the opportunity to recycle multiple units at once. The multifamily program adheres to the same eligibility requirements as our standard appliance recycling program. If you’re interested in this opportunity, please contact 833-202-3659 as bulk orders cannot be placed through the online scheduler.

Our multifamily program enables multifamily property owners and property management companies to recycle appliances from several units at a time. The appliance(s) must be owned by the property owner and come from residential and individually metered units—following the same eligibility criteria of our standard Appliance Recycling program.
