No, HEIP is offering incentives for doing “partial” electrification by going from a heating system that runs entirely on fossil fuels to a hybrid heat pump (a heat pump that retains your fossil fuel heat as a back-up heat source when temperatures outside get too cold for the heat pump itself).

Yes, SMECO is offering up to $2,000 to assist homeowners with the qualifying electrical upgrades (these are called “Make-Ready” incentives); however, this is included in the $15,000 incentive cap.
- Example #1: If your rebate for the equipment itself is $10,000, you may be eligible for the additional $2,000 to put toward your electrical upgrades.
- Example #2: If your rebate is $15,000 for the equipment itself, no additional incentive is available to assist you with the electrical upgrades.
HVAC and water heating equipment that run on fossil fuels (oil, propane, and natural gas) are eligible for the electrification incentives through HEIP.

Discuss your opportunities for electrification with the Energy Auditor who conducts the service. - Step 2: After receiving your reports from the HEA, work with one of our authorized contractors to evaluate what systems would work best for your needs.
- Step 3: Enjoy your reduced reliance on fossil fuels.
If you have oil, natural gas, or propane as either your primary or secondary source of heat in your home, or as your water heating fuel source, your home would qualify for electrification incentives.
