Will participating in the pilot compromise my comfort?
  • We aim to minimize discomfort through limited periods of water heater adjustment. Adjustments should have little to no impact on your comfort and you may not even notice the adjustment.
  • Your participation is voluntary, and you will retain control of your water heater. You can easily opt out of an event for any reason.
  • If you have any issues, email SMECOFlexHome@icf.com.
How long will an event last?

The typical event duration may last a few hours or less, and only on non-holiday weekdays. Once the event is over, your water heater will return to its normal setting.

How will I know that an adjustment is in progress?

Depending on your provider, notifications will appear on your water heater or in your web/mobile application. Adjustments should have little to no impact on your comfort and you may not even notice the adjustment.

How do I enroll?
  • If you already own an existing eligible water heater:
    1. You can enroll through our online portal.
  • If you don’t own an existing eligible water heater:
    1. You can purchase a new water heater through SMECO’s Home Energy Improvement Program and receive rebates of up to 75% of the total cost (an average of $1,100).
    2. Once you have your new water heater installed and activated, enroll in the FlexHome pilot through our online portal.

Once SMECO confirms your eligibility, you will be enrolled. You will receive notification of your enrollment status via the email address provided in your account registration.
