PURPOSE:
Summary:
Provide efficient and reliable service in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and related equipment.
THE JOB FUNCTION INCLUDES:
Responsibilities:
A. Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and related equipment; reports to supervisor equipment in need of major repair; keeps accurate maintenance records.
B. Makes minor repairs to all types of vehicles and related equipment; assists in major repairs and overhauling of engines, transmissions, suspension, brake systems (hydraulic and air), and driveline systems.
C. Learns to perform fabrication, acetylene welding and electric welding to make minor repairs.
D. Assists and learns to diagnose and repair electronic systems on automotive and diesel engines. Learns to perform electronic repairs on antilock brakes, air bag and emissions systems. Also learns to utilize specialized electronic testing equipment, including Pro-Link, Tech 2 and Snap-On 2500 scanners. Learn to utilize complex wiring diagrams to diagnose operating faults in wire harness and computer controls.
E. Services and assists in repairs of all types of aerial devices, digger derricks and other types of boom equipment.
F. Maintains, services and assists in repairs of all types of off-road and other motorized equipment.
G. Assists in minor repairs and adjustments to hydraulic and air systems.
H. Performs minor emergency repairs in the field, as necessary.
I. Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of all parts, oil, grease, and supplies.
J. Assists with vehicle and equipment inspections to assure the Cooperative’s fleet meets all Federal, State and Cooperative rules and regulations.
K. Assists in the instruction and training of others assigned to section.
L. Responsible for the physical condition and security of the shop area, assigned vehicles and tools.
M. Inspects all new vehicles and related equipment; assures unit is ready for service and installs decals prior to putting vehicle/s into operation.
N. Enforces safety rules for the protection of assigned personnel and assures proper use of tools and equipment.
In addition, duties of equal or lesser skill may be assigned by the Lead automotive Technician, or assigned supervisor, to meet emergencies or other operating needs.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Education:
This job requires reading, writing and mathematics; therefore, a high school diploma or the equivalent is preferred, but not required.
Experience:
At least one year of experience as a Shop Attendant, or the equivalent experience in automotive maintenance and/or vocational training.
Requirements:
Must hold a valid Maryland Driver’s License, Class C or above, and obtain a Commercial, Class A, Driver’s License and a current Department of Transportation, Medical Examiner’s Certificate within (3) months of hire/promotion.
