Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for a Data Engineer. Under moderate supervision, this position will develop and manage robust, scalable data processing systems with a focus on collecting, managing, and converting raw data into usable information. Enhance data quality and reliability through effective data engineering practices. This position will also implement complex data projects with a focus on collecting, parsing, managing, analyzing and visualizing large sets of data to turn information into insights using multiple platforms. Design and develop data applications for ETL using selected tools and frameworks as required and requested. Finally, this position will work closely with business stakeholders and business analysts to identify future needs and requirements.

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer, known for the attention to detail and strong analytical acumen, with deep expertise in Python/R and SQL, and a solid proficiency in core data engineering principles. The ideal candidate will join our dynamic team to leverage data in deriving strategic insights, playing a pivotal role in guiding informed business decisions and enhancing the operational efficiency of our cooperative.

The starting salary range for this position is $100,600-$135,400. SMECO offers and excellent benefits program including a 401k 6% dollar for dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.

Education:

Candidates are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM field. A Master’s degree is preferred. May substitute work experience where appropriate.

Experience:

Candidates are required to have five years of progressive work experience in a Data Engineer role. Demonstrable expertise in developing entity-relationship diagrams, dimensional models, data architecture, and data warehousing is also required.
