SMECO has employment opportunities in our Transmission, Distribution, and Operations Departments. SMECO is aggressively pursuing electrical engineers required to fill recent promotional vacancies, retirements, and new positions required to meet the demands of operating a robust electric system with innovation and technology.

SMECO is seeking experienced and recent electrical engineering graduate candidates fpr distribution, substation, and transmission engineering related positions. We have also been very successful at transitioning electrical engineers from other industries into the electric utility business.

We are searching for electrical engineers to support our Distribution Planning, Metering, Engineering, and Design needs:

System Planning and Distribution Engineering

Facilitates electric distribution system planning studies, electric system power flow and short-circuit software model development, customer generation interconnections, distribution protection device selection and coordination, construction and material standards, distribution automation technologies, data analytics, 15kV equipment selection and application, primary 15 kV electric system capital improvement project concept designs, and customer power quality issue resolution.

Electric Meter Engineering

Is a subject matter expert (SME) technical resource regarding the understanding and implementation of distribution and transmission electrical metering and automated meter data reporting infrastructure. Applies electrical theory knowledge to real-life electric metering issues , meter test services, installation and troubleshooting, Tariff policy, and procedural metering direction for customer billing and utility substation metering services, metering equipment selection, automated meter reading and meter data management software platforms, and intelligent grid “smart meter” technologies.

Electric Distribution Commercial Service Design

Design residential, commercial, and industrial project 600V class electrical services including transformer sizing, load requirements, phasing, primary and secondary cable selection, fuse/coordination device selection, and design documentation. Directs, coordinates, and monitors engineering project, program, permit, and contract requirements to meet customer electric service schedule needs.

We are searching for electrical engineers to support our Transmission Engineering, Construction, Operations, and Maintenance needs:

Substation and Transmission Projects
