Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an opening for a Distribution System Operator at our Hughesville location. The primary function of this position will be to monitor the distribution system in compliance with SMECO operational procedures. Ensure the distribution system performs as designed and changes/updates are incorporated into the outage management system configuration, and SCADA. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the distribution system by directing construction, maintenance and outage restoration and under supervision directs the switching and testing activities, during normal and emergency conditions. Ensures timely restoration. Communicates outage, weather and emergency information to Cooperative management and personnel.

The candidate must demonstrate:

· Ability to respond to emergencies and manage stressful situations while shifting between multiple tasks.

· Ability and willingness to progress to higher Distribution System Operator job classifications

· Ability to differentiate between and recognize specific colors on computer schematics that relay important system configuration information.

This position requires the ability to work extended hours, rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and extra time, on regularly scheduled days off, to support operations, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

The salary range is $68,700-$109,900.  SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including a 401K 6% dollar for dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    Education: 

    Two years of college or equivalent experience, with specialized training in electric utility operation and maintenance. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). 

    Experience:

    Minimum five years’ progressive experience in the operation, construction and maintenance of electric utility systems. SCADA/OMS experience preferred.
