Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for a Fixed Assets Manager. The primary function of this position will be to review, analyze, reconcile and record fixed asset transactions through established accounting practices and compliance with applicable internal policies, procedures and controls, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and other external authoritative requirements. Ensure timely processing of accounting information pertaining to related transactions. Provide audit schedules on assigned accounts. Provide timely accounting information and analytical support as required. This position will also maintain knowledge of SMECO systems, and the interfaces between systems. Work with appropriate personnel to ensure the integrity of the data used in the workflow management system and provide assistance to engineering and operations staff as necessary to manage capital costs and allocations. Finally, this position will provide assistance writing and implementing related procedures and oversee the impact on capital cost control and allocation trends. Maintain technical knowledge of applications, the setup of interfaces, translation tables, and their relation to the overall system. Understand the organizational workflow relative to fixed assets and the effects of various transactions, including those initiated in other departments, on the system as a whole.
Must be a highly motivated, self-starter who possess and utilizes critical thinking skills regularly in their work, making time management a priority. Must possess leadership skills to guide and assist the team, enthusiastic with a willingness to learn new systems, processes, personalities, and disciplines to recognize, analyze, and solve day to day challenges.
Candidates are required to have a four-year college degree with emphasis in accounting or finance. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desired.
Candidates are required to have a minimum of eight years progressive experience in an accounting position with demonstrated personal computer (PC), planning, organizational, communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
The starting salary range for this position is $77,200-$100,100. SMECO offers and excellent benefits program including a 401k 6% dollar for dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.
