Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for a Staff Accountant Inventory and Fixed Assets. The primary functions of this position will be to review, analyze, reconcile, and record transactions. Ensure timely processing of accounting information pertaining to related transactions. Provide timely accounting information and analytical support as required. Maintain knowledge of SMECO systems. Assist in the preparation of accounting records, financial and statistical data and reporting in compliance with applicable internal controls, policies, and procedures. Provide audit schedules on assigned accounts and assists with the annual audit. This position will also, review current inventory/purchase related business practices and monitor adherence to operational procedures, make recommendations for and implement process improvements in addition to contributing to process writing. Work with warehouse and purchasing personnel on the handling of physical and obsolete inventory and cycle counts and lead the closing process. Finally, this position will be responsible for account reconciliations related to inventory and purchase accounts, tracking and confirming/advising proper use of requisitions, purchase orders, material issues, and returns.

The starting salary range for this position is $68,700-$89,000. SMECO offers and excellent benefits program including a 401k 6% dollar for dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Education:

Candidates are required to have a four-year college degree with emphasis in accounting or business.

Experience:

Candidates are required to have a minimum of six years increasingly responsible experience in an accounting position with demonstrated personal computer (PC), planning, organizational, communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Experience with physical inventory purchasing process required.
