Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for a Substation Technician in our Hughesville location. SMECO is a rapidly growing electric utility that serves over 160,000 consumers just south of Washington, D.C. SMECO is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity in the workplace. The primary functions of this position will be to provide efficient installation, testing and maintenance of the Cooperative’s SCADA, protective relaying, communications, and electronic control systems that protect, operate, and control the Cooperative’s transmission and distribution network. This position pays $50.79/hr.

We are seeking a candidate who communicates well, is dependable, organized, pays attention to details, and works well in a team environment.

This position requires reading, writing and mathematics; therefore, a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Two years formal training in electronics, computer networks or the equivalent. Must have minimum of two year’s substation technician or similar technician experience and possess practical knowledge of transmission and distribution electrical systems.
