On November 10, 2025, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, Inc. filed with the Public Service Commission of Maryland for authority to pay down its short-term lines of credit with funds obtained through the issuance of long-term debt up to a maximum principal amount of $200,000,000. The stated purpose of the loan is to reimburse money, not secured or obtained from the issuance, that was expended to construct, complete, extend and improve its facilities within four years, specifically years 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, before the application for reimbursement.
