Heating and Cooling Instant Rebates

HVAC – Rebate Changes:

On October 1, 2018, new requirements for this program will go into effect. These updates will make it faster for you to get rebates for qualifying energy-efficient equipment. In the future, instead of having to wait for paperwork to be processed before you get your rebate, your SMECO rebate will work more like an instant discount—it will be issued immediately and taken off the cost of your equipment at the time of purchase.

If you purchased qualifying heating or cooling equipment on or before September 30, 2018, your equipment must be installed by October 31, 2018, and your contractor will have up to 30 days after installation to submit your rebate application for processing under the older system. Please note that all applications must be received by November 30, 2018.

*Limit three per household.

**SEER = Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating: A rating that denotes the efficiency of air conditioning equipment. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the unit and the lower the operating cost.

†EER = Energy Efficiency Rating: The ratio of an air conditioning unit’s cooling capacity in British thermal units (Btus) per hour to the total electrical input in watts.

‡HSPF = Heating Seasonal Performance Factor: The total heating output of a heat pump in Btus during its normal usage period for heating, as divided by the total electrical energy input in watt-hours during the same period.

§COP = Coefficient of Performance: A ratio that measures the efficiency of a heat pump. The higher the number, the more efficient the heat pump.
