There are different kinds of EVs?

Yep! Some EVs are 100% battery powered, while other EVs combine battery power with traditional gasoline. Both help you save.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) exclusively run on battery power. No gas tank, no internal combustion engine, all electric.

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) draw power from both a rechargeable battery and a gasoline-fed internal combustion engine.

Which EV is right for me?

Good question! Here are some things to consider.

Range — The bigger the battery, the more miles you’ll go without a recharge. Compare available models and see which range works best for you.

Incentives — Local, state, and federal governments provide rebates and tax credits that can help make EVs more affordable. Some auto dealers even offer extra incentives! Here are four you should know about. When picking BEV vs. PHEV, see which incentives stack the highest.

Your Local Charging Network — Research the types and number of chargers in your area. If you live in an area with lots of chargers, a BEV may be best. If you’re in a remote area more reliant on gas stations, you might want to go for a PHEV instead.

How do I charge my EV?

It’s as easy as plugging it in — but to what? It depends on the charger type.

Charging at Home

Level 1 chargers come included with most EVs. They plug into a standard 120-volt outlet, so you can charge overnight.
Level 2 chargers run on a 240-volt outlet (like the big one dryers plug into). Level 2 models charge your EV significantly faster. Many drivers get them installed at home.

Charging On the Go
