Edward Holland was elected to the SMECO Board of Directors in 2024 as one of the five representatives from Charles County. He serves on the Board’s Policy, Audit and Budget and Public Relations committees.
He holds the Credential Cooperative Director Certification, Board Leadership Certification, and Director Gold Certification from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, which he obtained within his first three-year term. Holland is grateful that this training has assisted him with staying abreast of the latest trends for cost-saving opportunities.
The Pomfret resident is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a platoon sergeant in Iraq. He worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security as a unit chief and U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations as a deputy director special agent before his retirement.
In his community, Holland is the state president of the Maryland Federation of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, which has 20 chapters throughout Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions. He chairs the Armed Services and Veterans Committee, Calvert County NAACP Branch. Holland chairs the Legislative and Veterans committees for a nationally recognized enforcement advocacy organization. He was a commissioner on the Charles County Board of Fire and Rescue for numerous years. Holland is the Past President, Holland Family Reunion Committee encompassing kin throughout Southern Maryland. In addition to the aforementioned organizations, he has held leadership positions with the Charles County Chamber of Commerce, the Maryland Military Coalition, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
