Standard Offer Service rate update

The total residential Standard Offer Service (SOS) rate for February is $0.102815 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

  • Winter Residential Energy Charge: $0.0931 per kWh
  • February Residential Power Cost Adjustment (PCA): $0.009715 per kWh

SMECO’s PCA for February is 10.37 percent of the current average annual base energy charge.

The SOS has two parts: the Energy Charge and the Power Cost Adjustment. The residential energy charge is a flat rate set to cover the cost of energy purchased. While this rate is stable on your bill, the wholesale market is constantly shifting. SMECO’s Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) is in place to even out the impact of fluctuating energy prices on customer bills and allow SMECO to recover the shifting costs. When SMECO’s PCA hits a trigger of more than five percent (up or down) of the residential energy charge for three consecutive months.
