Residential Area Lights

Installation charges are based on the estimated costs of SMECO facilities required to serve the light, such as cable and conduit (transformer costs are not charged).

The applicant is responsible for determining where to install the light, and the location must comply with all state, county, and local ordinances. (SMECO will not be held responsible for light placement.) See the SMECO Lighting Engineering Guide for design assistance.

After SMECO receives the completed application, the lead time for installation is approximately 90 days. If payment is required, SMECO will bill the customer, and the lead time will begin after SMECO receives payment.

4 types of lights are available.

  • All new installations are LED energy-efficient lights, 3,000 Kelvin
  • All area lights are dark-sky compliant with 100% total cutoff (no upward light)
  • For 16-foot fiberglass poles, a portion of the pole will be buried, so the light will be about 12 feet from the ground
  • All lights and rates are subject to change
