• If you have an existing thermostat, click the “Enroll” button located below your thermostat model on our enrollment page. This will lead you to your thermostat’s enrollment site, where you will follow simple steps to sign up.
• If you don’t have an existing eligible thermostat, please purchase a model listed in the table. Once you have it installed and activated, come back to enroll in the program.
• Once SMECO confirms your eligibility, you will be enrolled in the program. You will receive notification of your status via the email address provided in your account registration.

To enroll, you must:
• Be a SMECO residential member with electric service in your name.
• Use an eligible internet-connected smart thermostat for cooling.
• Allow SMECO to make brief, small thermostat adjustments on days of high energy demand.

• During an adjustment event (June through October only), your thermostat will be automatically adjusted up to 4°F based on your current temperature setting.
• The typical event will last four hours or less on non-holiday weekday afternoons. Once the event is over, your thermostat will return to its normal setting.
• Your participation is completely voluntary, and you will retain control of your thermostat. You can easily opt out of an event for any reason.

You’ll receive your $100 enrollment bonus within four to six weeks of receiving your enrollment confirmation from SMECO.

Check to see if the uncomfortable temperature occurred during event timing. Remember that events do not occur on weekends, holidays, or overnight. If you’re experiencing uncomfortable temperatures during one of these time frames it is likely from a thermostat setting unrelated to the program.

If it was during potential event timing, please review your current cooling setpoint. The program will increase your cooling setpoint by 1–4°F during the summer events. If your setpoint is too high, the program may adjust your temperature to an uncomfortable level.

Example: If your home’s cooling setpoint is set to reach a max of 78°F before air conditioning kicks on, the program could adjust your home’s temperature to 81°F during an event.
