In addition to providing reliable power and high-quality customer service, SMECO is committed to environmental stewardship.
SMECO manages vegetation along the Co-op’s rights-of-way on a four-year cycle. We prune and remove trees, clear brush, and apply herbicides to maintain our rights-of-way. Our goal is to control the vegetation that threatens power lines so that we can maintain a safe and reliable electric system.
SMECO’s vegetation management program follows best management practices for the utility arboriculture industry and adheres to federal and state regulations.
At least seven days before working in a specific area, we use door hangers to notify customers about vegetation maintenance so that they will have an opportunity to ask questions or voice their concerns to SMECO
For further information regarding the vegetation management program at SMECO, contact us at (301) 274-4366 or at (888) 440-3311.
If you have any questions or concerns about trees that are overhanging power lines, please call our customer care center at (888) 440-3311. You can help promote reliable power in your neighborhood by following our guidelines for planting vegetation when near SMECO’s facilities.
