Board election process begins

SMECO’s Board of Directors appoints the 2023 Nominating Committee at its March meeting. The Nominating Committee will meet in May to select candidates for the five Board positions to be elected this year.

Interested in running?

1. Members can run as a nominated candidate by submitting an application to the committee by May 5, 2023. Find the Board of Directors Candidate Application at smeco.coop/annualmeeting. 

2. Members can also run by submitting a petition signed by any group of 15 or more SMECO members no later than May 26, 2023. 

Elections will be held to fill one position each in Calvert/Anne Arundel, Charles, and Prince George’s counties, and two positions in St. Mary’s County. Ballots will be mailed and members can vote by mail or online. SMECO’s Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023. 

Selection of Nominating Committee members complies with SMECO’s bylaws. For more information regarding the committee, nominations, and director qualifications, refer to Article IV, Sections 4.02 and 4.03. The bylaws may be obtained at smeco.coop/bylaws or from a SMECO office.
