Board election process begins

SMECO’s 2024 Annual Members’ Meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on August 21, 2024.

Every year, SMECO conducts its members’ meeting for the purpose of electing directors and voting on bylaw changes. In 2024, elections will be held to fill one position in Calvert/Anne Arundel, and two positions each in Charles and St. Mary’s counties. Ballots will be mailed and members can vote by mail or online.

As a member, you have the right to vote.

Are you interested in running to serve on the SMECO Board? All interested candidates must complete the Board of Directors Candidate Application online at www.smeco.coop/annualmeeting.

Interested members may seek a spot on the ballot in one of two ways:

RUN BY NOMINATION

Submit your Board of Directors Candidate Application to the Nominating Committee

Deadline: May 3, 2024

RUN BY PETITION

Submit a petition signed by any group of 15 or more SMECO members

Deadline: May 23, 2024

Nominating Committee meets in May

SMECO’s Board of Directors appoints the 2024 Nominating Committee at its March meeting. The Nominating Committee will meet in May to select candidates for the five Board positions to be elected this year.

Selection of Nominating Committee members complies with SMECO’s bylaws. For more information regarding the committee, nominations, and director qualifications, refer to Article IV, Sections 4.02 and 4.03. The bylaws may be obtained at smeco.coop/bylaws or from a SMECO office.
