Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for an Accounting & Budgeting Manager. The primary functions of this position will be to supervise the accounting and budgeting team ensuring training and processes are in place to handle transactions accurately and timely. Responsible for the preparation of the operating and capital budgets for submission to the Senior Vice President & CFO and the President & CEO. Prepares the annual budget presentation for the Board of Directors. Actively monitors systems and processes and regularly evaluates for improved efficiency. This position will also supervise and coordinate the preparation of various annual and monthly reports for external and internal use. This position will be the primary source for orchestration and creation of new reports relating to accounting and budgeting for use by the organization using various applications. Maintains knowledge of systems to support accounting and budgeting functions, and maintains a thorough understanding of the transactions interfacing with the accounting system ensuring data integrity across systems.

Must be a highly motivated, self-starter who possess and utilizes critical thinking skills regularly in their work, making time management a priority. Must possess leadership skills to guide and assist the team, enthusiastic with a willingness to learn new systems, processes, personalities, and disciplines to recognize, analyze, and solve day to day challenges.

Candidates are required to have a four-year college degree with emphasis in accounting or business. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desired.

Candidates are required to have a minimum of eight years progressive accounting experience with an electric utility or other commercial operation in related areas including demonstrated proficiency in personal computer skills and an understanding of automated accounting systems and applications. Management and administration experience is required. Strong analytical, communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

The starting salary range for this position is $77,200-$100,100. SMECO offers and excellent benefits program including a 401k 6% dollar for dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.
