Job Description
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for an Accounting & Budgeting Manager. This is a Mid-Level Managment position. The primary function of this position will be to supervise the accounting and budgeting team ensuring training and processes are in place to handle transactions accurately and timely. Job specific responsibilities include:
- Responsible for the preparation of the operating and capital budgets for submission to the Senior Vice President & CFO and the President & CEO. Prepares the annual budget presentation for the Board of Directors.
- Supervises the preparation of monthly and annual financial reporting, including consolidated financial statements and statistical reports. Creates reports using various applications and ensures data and reporting integrity for transactions interfacing into the General Ledger. Assists others in training of the accounting system and reporting as needed for accounting and budgeting purposes. Provides technical assistance in computerization of accounting functions.
- Reviews, analyzes and interprets account variances, facts, and trend analysis in financial statements and reconciliations.
- Prepares and reviews regulatory reporting.
- Fully participates in the annual audit for data gathering, question and answer sessions, remediation, recommendations, etc.
Must be a highly motivated, self-starter who possess and utilizes critical thinking skills regularly in their work, making time management a priority. Must possess leadership skills to guide and assist the team, enthusiastic with a willingness to learn new systems, processes, personalities, and disciplines to recognize, analyze, and solve day to day challenges.
Candidates are required to have a four-year college degree with emphasis in accounting or business. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desired.
Candidates are required to have a minimum of eight years progressive accounting experience with an electric utility or other commercial operation in related areas including demonstrated proficiency in personal computer skills and an understanding of automated accounting systems and applications. Management and administration experience is required. Strong analytical, communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
The salary range for this position is $79,100-$126,500. SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including a 401k 6% dollar for dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.
