Charles B. Bowling, Jr., was elected to the SMECO Board of Directors in 2023 as one of the five representatives from Charles County. He serves on the Board's Capital Projects Committee and the Board Risk Oversight Committee. He holds the Credentialed Cooperative Director designation from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association
The Newburg resident and La Plata High School graduate is a longtime farmer. He owns Bowling Agri-Services and co-owns Bunker Hill Farm, and he was named to the Maryland Governor’s Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2017.
Bowling is active on many agricultural associations. He served as vice chair and chair of the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance and as president of the National Corn Growers Association. Bowling is a former president of the Maryland Grain Producers, a former director of the Charles County Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the Charles County Rural Development Committee. He has been a member of the Charles County Farm Bureau since 2008.
